Conference Information

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission welcomes you to San Antonio, Texas!

San Antonio: The name evokes images of cowboys, señoritas, salsa, Spanish missions, and the historic Riverwalk. This year’s NCSLA national conference occurs in the heart of San Antonio, on the Riverwalk, with plenty of activities to embrace the traditions of San Antonio and the State of Texas.

Highlights of San Antonio
The Riverwalk, or Paseo del Rio as it’s known in Spanish, is the city"s central entertainment district. It is an oasis of cypress-lined paved paths, arched stone bridges and lush landscapes. It gently winds through the city center with easy access to the city"s cultural hot spots, historic sites, shops, bars, restaurants and other attractions. This vibrant area is filled with the local sounds of folklorico and flamenco music during the summer. You"re sure to find plenty of things to do there.

The Alamo, located in Downtown, is Texas’ top tourist attraction. Because of the mission, San Antonio is often called the "Alamo City." You can often find tourists stepping over the golden marker where legend states that William B. Travis drew his sword and slowly marked a line in the dirt. "I now want every man who is determined to stay here and die with me to come across this line."

The Downtown Area also features the Cathedral of San Fernando, The Majestic Theatre, HemisFair Park (home of the Tower of the Americas and UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures), La Villita Historic Arts Village, El Mercado (the Market), the Spanish Governor’s Palace, The Mission Trail, and the historic Menger Hotel. Outside the city center you"ll find Sea World San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, The San Antonio Zoo, Natural Bridge Caverns, and Schlitterbahn Water Park.

Come to San Antonio and let us show you our proud heritage!

Business Meeting

NCSLA is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and the conference theme is "NCSLA-80 years: Just Getting Started." Over the course of four days the business agenda will cover a number of complex and diverse issues that have evolved over the decades. Experience firsthand the many benefits of NCSLA as you learn from industry experts and regulators about the history and challenges of post-prohibition rules, and the advancements and successes of regulating production, sales and service of beverage alcohol in this age of modernization and technology. Some of the featured panel presentations include discussions of trade practices, sponsorships, redefining the beverage alcohol landscape, cider, jurisdictional challenges, effect of liquor laws and multi-state operators, marijuana (the next frontier), and much more! You won"t want to miss a minute of these educational and informative sessions so come and celebrate the legacy of NCSLA with friends and colleagues in the "Alamo City!"

Social Activities

The social agenda will offer a special networking event on Tuesday evening at the Don Strange Ranch. This ranch is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Bandera, Texas - the Cowboy Capital of the World - and will offer a real Texas experience with a taste of its fiesta menu. Immerse yourself in cowboy heritage, and wear your jeans, boots and cowboy hat to the event!

The Buckhorn Museum & Saloon is located in the heart of downtown San Antonio - two blocks from the Alamo and one block from the Riverwalk. For over 131 years, the Buckhorn Saloon has been known as a gathering place for good conversation, great food and spectacular wildlife exhibits. Today, the saloon houses a Café, Gift Shop, Shooting Gallery and our two museums, the Buckhorn Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum. Please gather with us Thursday evening for a private tour and banquet as we celebrate NCSLA’s 80th anniversary!

We hope the planned events and tours will overwhelm the conference attendees with San Antonio’s quaint and Old Southwest charm. We promise to offer a city that is chocked full of attractions and entertainment options, leaving most of you wishing you had more time to spend in the Alamo City.
